It was the city's good work that instigated all this wrong. HB2 was brought to the North Carolina House as a reaction to Charlotte's own Charlotte Ordinance 7056, which prevented businesses from discriminating against LGBT customers. It's important to note that the City of Charlotte did nothing wrong. Before he even knows himself fully, he is told by others that, no, he cannot have a family and live in the town he grew up in. But thanks to the decisions of other people, depending on where an LGBT kid grows up, he either gets that future or he doesn't.
